Alex and Nick’s rainy Westlake Village Inn Wedding was one for the books! As a wedding photographer, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected. But nothing prepares you for the kind of magic that unfolds when a surprise rainstorm rolls in on a wedding day.
The day began with grey clouds but the energy among the bridal party was electric. The bridesmaids, dressed in soft blue gowns, mom helped the bride into her dress as music and laughter echoed through the suite. The groomsmen, equally sharp in their matching blue suits, were relaxed, cracking jokes and sipping whiskey in their getting-ready room.
But just as we began prepping for the outdoor ceremony, the forecast took a turn. Within minutes, a light drizzle became steady rain. Westlake Village Inn staff quickly responded with white and blue umbrellas. Guests arrived with smiles, clutching their programs and lifting umbrellas as they made their way to the ceremony lawn.
Alex and Nick exchanged tearful but joyous vows under a shared umbrella, and not one guest seemed to mind the rain in that moment. Instead, it felt like everyone leaned in, quite literally, under shared shelters and shared joy.
The reception was a striking contrast—an elegant, all-white indoor celebration accented with subtle pops of blue. Crisp white florals, flowing drapery, and candlelight set the mood. As the night unfolded, laughter, tears of joy during toast, and music filled the space. The dance floor stayed packed, and by then, the rain had become a distant, romantic memory.
This wedding reminded me why I love what I do. While most couples might hope for clear skies, there’s something truly special about embracing the day exactly as it comes. After sharing a few behind the scene video’s on instagram, a former rainy wedding day bride responded with what I thought was a beautiful message for Alex and Nick… “a wet knot is harder to untie.”
